I felt something pulling at me to share a particular sight that I happen to see every day, and it continues to amaze me. It actually leaves me in awe. I hike at a beautiful 90 acre park every day, usually in the mornings. Earlier this week as I turned the familiar corner on a winding path through the woods, crunching branches and leaves beneath my feet, my beautiful white lab stopped in his tracks. He stared intently at what I assume he thought to be a person about 30 yards ahead of him. He stood at the ready, waiting for something to happen. 15 seconds later when he realized that this “being” wasn’t moving, he continued to trot along on his merry way searching for chipmunks and squirrels in this little haven of ours. What he spotted was the same “being”, or “statue” that I have been noticing every day. It used to startle me a bit, but now it gives me a sense of calm. It’s almost surreal, maybe even sacred. I took these pictures to share this special sight so that you could decide for yourself.

To me, it looks like the statue of Joseph when he was standing next to Mary in Bethlehem. Literally, a life-size replica. Ironically, it is actually the trunk of a fallen tree, slowly decaying away. Yes, all living things have meaning and many spread love in a multitude of ways. Sharing love, enriching the soil, or leaving something behind to make us all think. I know, call me crazy but this sight has stayed in tact for at least a year. I think it’s pretty special. We all see things differently, but what I can say is that this has been one of my constant reminders to keep believing. It envelops me with peace. Yes, believe in love. Believe in happiness. Believe in whatever your heart desires and all that is sacred to you. It’s all about love.

Hey everyone! YES, it is already August and I can’t believe it myself. I appreciate your interest in my book AND I want to thank you for your patience. We had originally hoped that the book would be ready by spring or summer of this year, but much to my disappointment… it was not. In life we run into some unexpected road blocks. We have to roll with the punches and keep plugging away. My most sincere apologies for the delay. Thank you to those who are asking WHEN it will be ready. After recalibrating, we will be sharing a new release date and push to get it to you sooner. As a small gift to you, I am sharing the first chapter of I Guess a Drink is Out of the Question? I assure you that the book is REAL and I hope that you enjoy this excerpt. For the record, I am completely throwing myself under the bus with my editor, but you are all worth it! We are shooting for early 2024. Thank you again for hanging in there with me… I promise it will be worth the wait!

I Guess a Drink is Out of the Question?

Chapter One

After the second day in the hospital, things were not looking good. She lay there, completely out of it, fogged over by the anti-seizure meds. Her skin was sullen and seemingly turned more yellow by the minute. Jaundice. She had been perfectly healthy. Did this all happen yesterday? Or was it the day before? The numbers were all wrong, still heading in the opposite direction of healthy. Liver enzymes skyrocketed into the heavens, blood counts continued to dive deep into the abyss, and it was all happening far too quickly.

He sat in the sterile room at Lankenau Hospital, exhausted and hunched over, head hanging heavily in his hands. The constant beeping of monitors had become white noise. Flowers and cards lined the window sill. There had been blood tests and ultrasounds. The orderly had apologized profusely as he wheeled the hospital bed back from the last test. She looked horrible and had obviously been crying. Left completely alone in a hallway, for half an hour in severe pain. Alone. He was furious, why hadn’t they allowed him to accompany her? Alone. Crying. Severe pain. The anger had subsided and now, he was just plain exhausted. A feeling of desperation took over. Please God, help her! Help me. He glanced up at the hospital bed and grasped the cold metal guard rail, thinking this is not what I signed up for. Taking a deep breath, he slowly shook his head from side to side, trying to will it all away. The love of his life, here one day and gone the next…it’s just not supposed to happen this way.

Startled back to reality from the tap on the door, he jumped to his feet and the doctor entered the room. “It’s time” said Dr. Fox. They stepped just outside of the room and Dr. Fox walked through the procedures. He nodded understandingly and mentally prepared himself. The medical staff had already explained that this was their last option, a bit of a “Hail Mary”. He walked back into the room, slid the chair as close to her bedside as possible, grasped her hand, and began to pray silently. As the staff poured steadily into the room, they quickly hung the bag of murky dull orange liquid, hooked everything up and pure quiet took over the room. The blood transfusion was underway and all eyes were on her limp and almost lifeless body. He could smell the urgency and taste his own fear. The minutes felt like hours as he began to sweat, heart pounding loudly, panic setting in. In their heart of hearts, they all knew that if this was not successful, her final breath would follow shortly thereafter. And then he would be planning a funeral.

Hope is a powerful thing. If you lose hope it is easy to give up, and nobody deserves to be in that place. I was on a recent trip out West with my family and we met a random stranger who was teetering on being in that place, losing hope and giving up. We were heading back home and ended up having an extended lay over in Dallas. Looking for a bite to eat, we ended up at TGI Friday’s. A man who was sitting next us at another high top table began talking to us, clearly looking for some company. Turns out, he recognized us because we were on the same flight that had just landed in Dallas and we were both on the same flight to Philly which had just been cancelled. He asked me what I did for a living and I told him how I was writing a book about how I met my wife, a love story to give people hope. He immediately said “That’s ME! I NEED HOPE!!” He began telling me his story, with all of the gory, real-life details. Apparently, after 25 years of marriage and two children, his wife was no longer in love with him. She said that she loved him, but was not in love; she wanted a divorce. He was in shock, and had to step back to evaluate his life, and start over.

Thinking about falling in love, let alone finding somebody at his stage of his life was scary and unnerving. After meeting this complete stranger and listening to his story, I thought about how many other people out in the world might be going through the same thing.

His daughter was heading off to college soon and he was so worried about what he was going to do. He also said that she really wanted to see him happy again. How he was going to meet someone new to love and how was he going to handle the quiet, empty house? He was caught in his own tornado of thoughts worrying about her happiness and his own. One thing I do know is that nothing will ever happen if you sit at home worrying. We had such a great conversation and he began to embrace the concept of hope again. So awesome! He started to make plans to try out some new activities and pick up some of his old favorites. A baseball league, mountain biking, maybe yoga or even an art class. Yes, just getting out there means you may meet someone new! When you’re happy doing the things you love, it shows. People want to be around happy people. It’s contagious. You have a better chance of meeting someone when you are doing what you love! I couldn’t be happier that our conversation gave him hope. The crazy fun way my wife and I met helped him to believe that it could happen to him. Guess what? It can happen to anyone! Get in the right mind set, be happy and positive, be willing to take a chance, and yes, anything can happen.

He was SO excited to read our book. We hope it will give him and others the hope to believe in love. It is never too late, no matter your situation. Love can still happen to him and to anyone IF you believe. Have hope and BELIEVE… Its all about love!

This week I headed to the hospital to get some blood tests for a procedure. Tourniquet on my arm while pumping my fist ready for the stab, the nurse asked me “so what do you do for a living?” I told her that I had a coffee business for many years which I heartbreakingly had to close because of the covid disaster. My silver lining from covid was pulling the book off the back burner to finally finish it and get it published. She thought that was really cool and asked “what’s it about?” I told her that I was writing a love story about how I met my wife. “Really?” she said, “why?” I told her that I wanted to bring love and hope to everyone in this crazy world we live in now! God knows we need it. She immediately turned to look at me, still being very careful with the needles and vials. She had this expression that is so hard to explain. It basically said oh yeah we do, way to go! She loved the the idea and voiced her feelings “Boy does this world need love!” She fist-bumped me and asked what the name of the book was and told me that she would love to follow me. I was wowed by her reaction. I then shared the name of the book I Guess A Drink Is Out Of The Question and shared my site, BondAuthor.com. She was so excited she almost forgot what she was doing and quickly recovered, saying “We need more people like you this world!” I felt honored and humbled. She then proceeded to tell me she is dating an intern who was just upstairs. They both love what they do, are learning a lot from each other and are having a lot of fun. I said, “That is so cool, I love it!”

In that short bit of time, good vibrations were shared and the contagiousness of love lit up the room. Our conversation was happy and positive. I have heard this collision of two people interacting in life and sharing in this way being called a “Holy Moment.” It can spread like ripples in a pond. People love LOVE and they love to be around people IN LOVE. Spread the joy and this world can and will be a better place to live.

I am sharing this photo of a ceramic plate that my son made several years back. One hundred percent his own idea and creation, the American flag was the first thing he decided to make at the ceramic studio. He shaped the clay on top of a paper plate and fashioned the edges irregularly, using a stick to press in lines for the stripes and poke holes to represent the stars. It is far from an exact replica of stars and stripes, but is now used on every red, white and blue holiday at our home to serve food to our friends and family. I am sharing this with you all today because this “imperfect” flag plate is actually more than perfect to us. It is a really cool one-of-a-kind piece of art. Life is not perfect and it’s not always easy, but sometimes life’s imperfections end up becoming invaluable memories or true beauty marks on your life’s canvas. Perfection is completely overrated. Step back and take in all that is around you, make time to give back, try something new, make your own flag plate and accept life’s imperfections, yes even your own. The American flag is a sign of pride, strength and freedom. Really, it is much, much more than that for many people. Today, it reminds me to be thankful for so much. It reminds me of a fun day at a pottery studio where we all had brown clay under our fingernails, where we all had a chance to be creative and where this amazing plate was made. Thank you to all of our service men and women. It is great to be an American in “The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.”

So, my book and my story is just one example of love. I say “It’s all about love” because a little kindness and a little love can truly change the world. Think about it, how can you bring a little joy to someone’s life today, maybe find a way to ease their mind, or reduce their stresses of life. Everyone is fighting their own battle that we know nothing about. Yeah, I am too… It’s all about love, because love is what makes the world go round, because kindness goes a long way. Start with yourself. You really do need to love yourself before you can love anyone else. What does that mean? Well I think it is different for everyone. If you’ve made mistakes, forgive yourself, move on. If you don’t like something in your life, focus on changing it. Give yourself goals and be patient with yourself. A parents love can shape your life. A random act of love or kindness can save someone. Friends can keep you afloat. Get rid of the baggage. Surround yourself with people who make your life better. Break away from negativity. You are in control of your own life. Spread a little love and you’ll be amazed how it comes back to you 10 fold. Please check out BondAuthor.com.

It was a beautiful day for golf. Alyssa sat on the porch at Aronimink Golf Club, sipping on a cold crisp glass of white wine. She was there with her childhood best friend for “Sips and Tips”, a perfect combination of drinking wine and learning golf tips to improve their game. Alyssa couldn’t help but notice a handsome young man enjoying the 19th Hole as she stared out across the perfectly manicured course. Who is this guy, she thought as her gaze followed him.

Later that evening, the two ended up at a mutual friend’s house. What are the chances? Alyssa stopped by with some girlfriends, she was on a mission to find that man! Christopher noticed her too, but he was already headed home for the night.

Alyssa asked around to get his name and then “window tapped” him on Instagram. The cat and mouse social media game had seemingly begun. She “followed” him and he “followed” her right back. Christopher even had a friend take a picture of him walking on Aronimink’s golf course so that he could post it and grab her attention. Of course she “liked” it right away, game on! This went on for quite a while. Neither were quite sure how to make the first move.

Cupid intervened and Christopher received an interesting text from an old friend he had taken to prom. The text read I have the perfect girl for you! Intrigued immediately, he picked up the phone and called her. As it turned out, his prom date knew Alyssa and a first date was arranged. Christopher arrived at 6:45pm, fifteen minutes early for their 7pm date. And he waited…

Alyssa had friends come over to help her choose what to wear and of course, she needed to have a few cocktails to settle her nerves. After several outfit changes, she was on her way. Alyssa walked into the White Dog Cafe in Wayne at 7:15pm.

Alyssa’s friends had chauffeured her to and from her first date. Despite her nerves and late arrival, the evening was spectacular! Christopher didn’t wait too long to ask her for a second date and two days later they went to Applebrook Golf Club to try out their golf simulator. Christopher watched Alyssa as she executed a perfect backswing. Unfortunately, the remainder of the swing did not pan out quite the same. As the club hit the floor, the ball catapulted to the ceiling and came straight back at her face, hitting her square in the nose. Two black eyes and a sore nose, Alyssa was mortified, but she still had butterflies in her stomach. Christopher couldn’t believe what a good sport she was about it, could this be love? Shortly thereafter he asked her to be his girlfriend. Alyssa was overjoyed and blurted out the first thing that came to her “are you sure?” Disarmingly honest and real, she was perfect for him! Shortly thereafter, they moved in together.

A year and a half later in August 2022, Alyssa’s birthday was right around the corner. Determined to make it a complete surprise, Christopher was ready to pop the question. Alyssa started to plan her own 70’s themed “Slim Aarons” birthday celebration. She made all of the arrangements and invited her friends. As her birthday approached, Alyssa started to get annoyed. How could he let her plan this whole party? She became irritable, shocked by his uncharacteristic selfish behavior. Meanwhile, Christopher was trying to act normal and play it cool. He hinted about a surprise and led her to believe it may be a puppy. He was really worried that she might be onto him.

The morning of her birthday party, they played pickleball and then headed out for lunch. There was still a little time before the party started so Christopher suggested a walk at Saw Mill Creek Park for a “surprise”, which Alyssa immediately thought meant there was a dog waiting. Christopher had something else in mind and everything had already been arranged. They enjoyed a nice stroll through the park, but there was still a bit of tension in the air until Alyssa noticed the silver ice bucket with champagne. Her heart melted and she was speechless as Christopher proposed. The next chapter of their magical journey as a couple was official. As they arrived at Alyssa’s birthday party, she was pleasantly surprised again with a boatload of added friends that Christopher had secretly invited. It was a perfect day!

The wedding is set to take place in Ireland in 2024 with family and friends. For the record, she had no idea. The surprise was a success. As he slipped the ring on her finger, he saw the 70’s inspired manicure and knew instantly. If she had known, it surely would have been a French manicure for the engagement photos! Real life, real love! Best wishes and lucky shamrocks to this beautiful and amazing happy couple!

I can imagine how hard it is trying to find love. There are no guarantees and no simple formula! Love comes in all shapes and colors. Many of us are desperately searching for love, so it is sometimes easy to miss. It literally could be right in front of you right now. If you don’t keep your eyes open and look up once in awhile it won’t happen. The saying, “don’t go looking for love, it will find you” doesn’t mean that it will necessarily come and knock down your door. Although you never know! What I am saying is that you need to be open to meeting new people, pay attention, try something new or take a chance. It doesn’t mean to go out and ask everybody you meet or hunt down your so called “soul mate.” Just don’t give up and don’t stop believing in love. You have to stay positive, be happy, smile! People like people with good vibrations! It means putting yourself out there. Do random acts of kindness without expecting something in return. Maybe you change your daily routine and do something you would not normally do everyday. If I had all the answers I would definitely share them with you. I am merely making suggestions. I only know from my personal experience. What happened to me was incredible! If it can happen to me, it can happen to you. Believe with all your heart. My prayers go out to you all, in the hopes of finding the love of your life or even a really good or special friend! A good friend may lead you to that love. There are many paths to love, and I hope you find yours. Never stop believing! It’s all about love!
