He wondered if the girl of his dreams even existed…a true love, the kind that you read about and see in the movies. The kind that he saw with his parents. But does that ever happen anymore? I Guess a Drink is Out of the Question is a real life love story that begins in the heart of the Main Line of Philadelphia. Two worlds unexpectedly collide as a handsome and carefree bachelor is caught completely off guard. Jack is passing through the historic town of Wayne, and he is suddenly drawn to a beautiful young lady strolling along the avenue window shopping. Jack becomes completely overwhelmed and a heart-pounding, split second decision will completely change both of their lives. A chain of events is set off that makes their heads spin and turns their worlds upside-down. From falling in love to a near death tragedy, intrigue, laughter, tears and miracles, this incredible story is a whirlwind of life.
Driving through the town of Wayne, Jack is inexplicably drawn to a young lady who is strolling through the quaint shopping district. She peers into the window of the French bakery and tilts her head as her gaze moves to the jewelry and mannequins in the boutique window below the turquoise awning. Jack is frozen, completely overcome with emotion. He slowly pulls into one of the diagonal parking spaces, inconspicuously steps out of his car and locks his eyes onto her. A black leather bag hangs from her shoulder, and she carries a few small shopping bags overflowing with pastel and striped tissue paper. In his favorite blue suit and tie, Jack leans against the side of his car, holds his phone to his ear and watches her, wondering where she may be headed next. She turns back, seemingly glancing in his direction for a moment, and then continues to walk away from him. Did she notice him? Emotions flood over him like never before, and his heart begins pounding so quickly it feels as if it may explode from his chest. Jack takes a deep breath and decides that he must meet her, but how? Sweat dripping down his cheeks, he is forced to make a split-second decision. As she turns to cross the street, Jack jumps back into his car, simultaneously checks his mirrors and quickly reverses to make a U-turn. Almost backing into a police car, he hurriedly maneuvers his way to the other side of the street.
Jack inches up directly beside her. Put a fork in me I’m done, he thinks. Nerves clashing with his heart, an honest boyish smile slowly comes to life. He looks directly at her and says, “Excuse me?”
Lexi was visiting the area for a charity event held by one of her favorite clients who had become a dear friend. Stephen had recommended that she stay at the Wayne Hotel, assuring that she would love its quaint, historic vibe with wonderful food and shopping a few steps away. Perfect she thought, as she took in the beautiful crystal chandelier in the cozy, chic and well appointed hotel lobby. The staff could not have been more friendly, it already felt like home away from home! The event was a whirlwind success, ending with the sound of clinking champagne flutes as toasts were made among friends and colleagues. The next morning, Lexi sat down to a breakfast meeting, and then headed back to the hotel to catch up on emails. She took a break for lunch and was seated outside on the porch of the hotel restaurant at what she thought was the best table.
Lexi savored a mixed greens salad topped with juicy red tomatoes and scallops that were seared to perfection. As she sat outside, a lovely light breeze swept across the porch. Soft rays of sunlight peeked through to her table and Lexi closed her eyes, allowing herself to soak it all in. Next on the agenda was a dinner meeting, so she decided to take a walk through the shopping district of Wayne.
A young man slowly pulled up next to her and rolled his window down to ask a question. Assuming he was going to ask her for directions, Lexi was fully prepared to tell him she was not from around here. “Excuse me” said the young man as his smile broadened. “Would you like to have lunch?”, he added. Lexi was dumbfounded. It was 3 o’clock in the afternoon. “I already had lunch, thanks anyway,” she quickly replied, and then kept on walking. Jack was sweating profusely. With no time to think, he inched up to her again. “I guess a drink is out of the question?”, he said.
Jack and Lexi eventually sit down on the porch of the historic Wayne Hotel. As they embark in conversation, they find a familiarity that washes completely over them. Two glasses of Chilean red wine at the best table in the house (of course), and the adventure begins!
