As we travelled the turnpike to Pittsburgh this Thanksgiving, I was drawn to the sights of rolling hills, barns and grazing cows, belonging to many beautiful farms. I thought of all the farmers and their families, and the hard work they do from dawn till dusk. The long hard hours they grind to help all of us put food on the table. It’s the start of the holiday season and it’s a time of giving thanks to God for the many blessings we have in our lives, especially the ones we love that are close to our hearts. Our moms and dads, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, and grand children. All of our cousins and relatives and of course our friends. A wise older friend said to me a long time ago, if you get to be old like me and you can count on one hand the friends you have before you die, you are a very rich man. True friends, ones who would stick by your side no matter what.
Thanksgiving is also a time of remembrance, giving thanks to the ones that have passed before us. We thank them for not only for the wonderful memories but for the many lessons in life they have taught us. When I started my freshmen year of high school, my mom gave me a poem called Thinking, it gave me confidence to believe in myself. Both of my parents would always say that you can do anything you want as long as you put your mind to it. Like this poem, our parents are great believers of a happy positive attitude towards life. In life’s battles there will be ups and downs, but you must always keep your chin up and never stop trying and believing in yourself. On this day and everyday be happy, be positive and ever so grateful. Here is a link if you would like to check out the poem yourself. Have a happy and safe holiday season everyone!
