This is where it all began. Right in front of the Wayne Hotel. If I had not been looking up and looking around, I would have never seen or met the girl that has changed my life forever. I saw this beautiful girl walking down the street and something just came over me. A kind of magical moment, a spiritual flash, some sort of wake up – this is it, I thought. It’s a feeling that is kind of hard to explain. I was very nervous and excited all at the same time. A rush of heat flooded over me and I started perspiring as my heart started pounding harder. Small droplets of sweat ran down my side burns. I was almost panicking thinking what am I going to say or do, holy shit! So I drove up next to her on the side of the street, wiping the itchiness of the sweat rolling down my cheek. I was sort of freaking out, but as calmly as I could at this particular moment in time, I rolled down my car window, leaned over a little as both of our eyes caught and asked “Would you like to have lunch?” She looked at me as if I was gonna ask her something else, paused and said, “I already had lunch, thanks anyway.” She turned and continued slowly walking up the sidewalk. It wasn’t exactly a no I thought to myself, so I pumped the gas and moved slowly up the incline of the side street. I glanced over again catching her glance and blurted out, “I guess a drink is out of the question?” She stared at me as I smiled back. She studied me for what felt like an eternity, looking at her watch and then back at me again. Tilting her head with somewhat of a reassuring curious smile, she replied “I have a couple of hours to kill, I guess I could have a drink.” I couldn’t believe it! I quickly parked my car and walked back to greet her. As we introduced ourselves to each other, I suggested we go to Taquet. As we moved slowly down the pathway towards the side door of the restaurant, she asked me, “what do you do?” noticing that I was dressed in a suit and tie. I said, “I work for KYW.” She blankly looked at me as if I was speaking a foreign language. I thought everyone knows the KYW jingle, so I started humming it aloud. She still continued to look at me like I was kinda crazy. Of course, I had to laugh. Finally, I realized she was not from around here, let alone the tri-state area. We noticed the place was empty accept for a lone bartender who was finishing cleaning up after the lunch crowd. That’s perfect I thought as we would have the porch to ourselves. She excused herself and headed for the ladies room. I nodded and walked out to the front porch. I sat there patiently sitting at this table looking over a slow setting sun. When she arrived back from the restroom, she looked around the restaurant and thought I had left. She did not know that I had taken a seat out on the porch! My book is coming soon it’s called, “ I Guess A Drink Is Out Of The Question” by Christopher Bond.
